This year’s Catholic Spirit Radio Care-A-Thon had a theme of Opening the Doors of Hope, Leaving a Legacy. I was doing some research on topics for discussion and finding bible verses that mentioned hope to be prepared.
When I was asked by my co-host what is a story of hope that I wanted to share, the first thing that came to mind was what I went through when my Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. It was rough for a while, and I am thankful to have found a book called Creating Moments of Joy by Jolene Brackey.
This book changed my entire view of how to deal with the grief of loosing who my Mom was and had been to me. It gave me the hope to have strength to deal with Mom on her bad days, and how to console my Dad in his own special way of grieving his wife of 50+ years before and after her passing.
I am also very thankful for the Alzheimer’s Assocaition for their dedication to supporting families facing this. I attended a support group and it very much helped me to get through the process too.
Please listen to this clip and share your story of hope in the comments…
